A game that swung both ways ended with a disappointing climax as the Roasters ran out second best to an efficient Goldsithney side, sure to be challenging for honours as the season progresses.
Losing the toss, Port took to the field with only 10 men, 'Twiggy' Thomas with important Readers Digest mail to deliver. Probably.
After dropping a rare catch, JJ Walker made amends 2 balls later, 4-1. From then the visitors found every gap, racing to 89-1 in just the 13th over. Chances were again spilled at the pressure mounted, the bowlers very unlucky as the score rattled on. It wasnt until the 27th over before Kitchen top edged Parish high into the bright blue sky, Dave 'Mallard' Goodchild the unenviable task underneath, but he took it with ease. This seemed to give everyone confidence, Murray caught by 'Les' Dawson off the bowling of the fearsome Irish potato muncher J'J' Walker. Pellow followed for just 4, Dawson again bagging the catch, after Parish had 2 dropped in successive overs. All forgotten about though, honest! JJ removed Burt and Millard, before Young came back, the Australian bag of bones an 'arresting' sight, throwing 'caution' to the wind as he 'assaulted' the tail. A great comeback, and one that should've been backed up when the turn came to bat.

Goldsithney had a strong attack, runs hard to come by. 'Chubby' Williams finally removed for 11 from 42 balls, JJ Walker bowled by the accurate Murray just as the runs began to flow for him. Next was the controversy - 'Twiggy' Thomas apparently caught and bowled, but neither umpires could confirm the catch was good, so Twiggy survived, although his parentage, honesty and knowledge of language too strong for a family publication, was questioned until his departure for an entertaining 49 from just 60 balls. Carvelly didn't have the red mist, more a shade of his preferred white. Power strokes to all around the ground saw him race to 30 from just 24 balls, and the game looking like it was headiing the way of the home side, when Murray took the crucial wicket, bowling the Afrikaan paceman, 130 for 4 in the 25th over. Port had plenty of overs left, but it was only Ken Boon who made double figures as the lower order all failed to chip in the vital runs, falling 27 short, but also not using almost 8 overs. No roasting this Saturday as Botallack are the Sunday visitors to the Roasters Dome
